Keeping My Faith Private from My Parents – Is This Allowed?
Salam everyone, I need some advice. I embraced Islam eight years ago, and when I first shared it with my family, they didn’t take it well. They were really upset and made things hard for me at home. I was so excited about Islam that I wanted to tell everyone, but my family’s harsh reaction forced me to step back. Now, for the past few years, I’ve pretended to them that I left the faith. It’s surprisingly easy-sometimes I even slip and say “inshallah” without meaning to, and they just chuckle. Since hiding my practice, life has been peaceful, and I love them deeply, so I can’t bring myself to be honest again. My mom, especially, would worry too much. Practicing on my own isn’t a problem; I just keep it quiet. But here’s my question: would it be permissible for me to marry a Muslim man while still concealing my deen from my family?
