Ministry of Defense Affirms Defense University Does Not Ban Hijab, Female Cadet Uniforms to Be Adjusted
The Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) has denied any ban on wearing the hijab for female cadets at the Indonesian Defense University (Unhan). Rector Regulation Number 28 of 2025 does not contain provisions that specifically prohibit the hijab, and instead places piety as part of the cadet honor code.
In certain activities such as Basic Military Training in Magelang, female cadets may be required to adjust their attire for safety and security reasons. However, in daily life at the barracks or during off-campus activities such as internships, the hijab remains permitted.
Under the direction of the Minister of Defense, regulations on female cadet uniforms will be evaluated and refined to accommodate the use of the hijab for Muslim cadets.
