Can I create a Muslim character as a non-Muslim writer?
Assalamu alaikum! Hope you're all doing well, inshallah. I'm an Argentine artist and writer, and while I'm not Muslim myself, I've been really drawn to learning about Islam for about two years now. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what got me started, but recently I visited our country's biggest mosque and was able to get a copy of the Qur'an in Spanish-it was a wonderful experience. Anyway, I'm getting a bit off topic. What I wanted to ask is: would it be proper for someone like me, who isn't Muslim, to create and develop a character who is Muslim? I want to approach this with total respect and a sincere wish to learn, but I know there's still so much I don't understand, and I'd really hate to accidentally get something wrong or misrepresent anything. Do you think it's possible to do this in a respectful way, or should I probably avoid it altogether since I'm coming from the outside? Also, if it's okay to ask another question from someone still learning: how do you usually feel about how Muslims are shown in movies, books, and media? Thanks in advance! Any advice or tips would be super appreciated, inshallah.
