How to Attain a Better Destiny from Allah SWT
Human destiny has been decreed by Allah SWT. However, Islam still encourages effort (ikhtiar). Here are practices to attain a better destiny.
1. Prayer for a Good Destiny.
Read a prayer asking for all goodness and protection. Hadith from Ibn Majah & Ahmad.
2. Prayer for a Better Destiny.
The Prophet (SAW) recommended this prayer. Sahih al-Bukhari mentions the prayer of Umar bin Khattab.
3. Prayer for Protection from All Evil.
This prayer is read three times in the morning & evening. Sahih al-Bukhari mentions this prayer.
4. Prayer Asking for Safety in This World & the Hereafter.
The most common prayer asking for safety is the prayer in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 201. The Prophet (SAW) often recited this prayer.
5. Ask for Forgiveness & Goodness.
Increasing istighfar (seeking forgiveness) can open doors to sustenance. Surah Nuh verses 10-12 explain the benefits of istighfar.
6. Sending Blessings (Salah) upon the Prophet (SAW).
Sending salah upon the Prophet makes prayers more likely to be answered. Surah Al-Ahzab verse 56 mentions that Allah and the angels send salah upon the Prophet (SAW).
7. Pray During the Times When Prayers are Most Readily Answered.
These times include the last third of the night or during Tahajjud (night prayer). Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim state that the Prophet (SAW) said: Prayers at this time are answered.
8. Consume Lawful (Halal) Wealth.
Sahih Muslim states that the Prophet (SAW) mentioned that consuming what is forbidden (haram) blocks prayers.
9. Give Charity (Sadaqah).
Charity can open the doors of Allah's help. Ahmad's Hadith states: "Whoever wants their prayer to be answered, let them give charity."
10. Have Certainty in Allah SWT.
Pray with full conviction. At-Tirmidhi's Hadith states the Prophet (SAW) said: "Supplicate to Allah with the certainty that it will be answered."
