Analyst: Iran Potentially Capable of Direct Attack on U.S. Territory with Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles
In the Prime Dialog on Nusantara TV, Friday (24/4/2026), Military and Defense Expert Susaningtyas N Kertopati (Bu Nuning) stated that Iran possesses the capability to directly attack United States territory using intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) technology. According to her analysis, Iran’s internal situation following the passing of Ali Khamenei and the injury of Mojtaba Khamenei could trigger a more decisive military response.
Nuning emphasized that the dynamics in Iran involve a tug-of-war of internal interests, where not all of society supports the current regime. The current conflict, she argues, has evolved into a hybrid war encompassing military, cognitive, informational, and cyber aspects. Increased security measures in the Strait of Hormuz were cited as evidence of Iran’s growing military leverage.
On the other hand, Nuning assessed that Donald Trump’s shifting stance reflects a 'cognitive warfare' strategy as a former businessman. Meanwhile, China is viewed as playing a mediator role that encourages ceasefires and negotiations without becoming directly involved in physical confrontation. The world now faces a geoeconomic, cyber, and public perception war that will determine resilience amid the threat of a global energy crisis.
