Please avoid saying these words to your sad kids
Assalamu alaikum, dear parents. I want to share something from my heart. Sometimes, without meaning to, we hurt our children deeply with our words, especially when they are feeling low or depressed. "The Prophet (peace be upon him) went through much harder trials than you. Who are you to complain? You should be grateful. I also had struggles when I was your age. Just be thankful." "Your death won't bother me. We will just bury you and deal with the tears." Please, I beg you, don't say these things to your children when they are already broken inside. When my own mother told me these words, I felt like I was nothing in this world. It made me feel that nobody, not even the one who gave birth to me, cared if I existed. And my father? He was never really there anyway. It's a pain that stays with you. Let's speak with mercy and wisdom, as our deen teaches us.
