MUI-LDII East Java Plants 1,000 Mangroves and Releases 50 Hatchlings in Banyuwangi
The East Java Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Indonesian Islamic Propagation Institute (LDII) held a coastal conservation action at Cemara Beach, Banyuwangi, by planting 1,000 mangrove seedlings and releasing 50 turtle hatchlings. The event, themed with the spirit of “tandang bareng” (working together), also included a beach clean-up and free health check-ups and medication, involving around 500 participants from various community groups.
MUI East Java Chairman Prof. Dr. KH Abd. Halim Soebahar said planting mangroves is like planting goodness for future generations, and he encouraged collaboration between religious organizations, the government, and the community. LDII East Java Chairman KH Moch. Amrodji Konawi explained this action is part of the annual program “Joint Work, Service for the Nation” which supports the East Java Governor's program “Nandur Mangrove” (Planting Mangroves).
Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani, through Assistant II Suratno, appreciated this cross-sector collaboration as key to preserving the environment. LDII Banyuwangi Chairman Ir. Heri Sujatmiko hopes the hatchling release helps boost the threatened turtle population, stressing the importance of sustainable conservation for the balance of coastal and marine ecosystems.
