Iranians reach 120 days without internet as blackout continues | The National
Iran has imposed a near-total internet blackout since February 28, affecting about 90 million residents. This follows an earlier shutdown in January during protests. So far in 2026, ordinary Iranians have had internet access for only about 6.5% of the year. Some limited access exists through the state-controlled 'National Information Network' – jokingly called the 'halal internet' – but it's heavily restricted to approved sites. Smuggling of Starlink terminals continues, but analysts say full connectivity is unlikely to be restored soon.
