Haj Ministry Strengthens Haj Economy Ecosystem, Eyes Rp80 Trillion Potential
The Indonesian Ministry of Haj and Umrah is shifting the paradigm of haj management from religious services to strengthening the national economic ecosystem. With an estimated annual haj and umrah fund flow reaching Rp80 trillion, the government is crafting strategies so that this economic value creates a multiplier effect for national industries, MSMEs, investments, and employment.
Director General for Haj and Umrah Economic Ecosystem Development Jaenal Effendi stated that this development aims to ensure haj management adds value to the national economy by increasing the involvement of domestic products, services, and business players. Strategic programs include strengthening supply chains, using local products, and developing investments in supporting sectors.
Concrete steps already taken include exporting 28 types of Nusantara spices with a volume of over 300 tons and providing 3.1 million ready-to-eat meal packages for pilgrims. The government is also optimizing empty flights to bring Middle Eastern tourists to Indonesia, as well as strengthening investments from upstream to downstream to open market share opportunities of 30-40 percent for national business players. Digitalization through the Haj Economy Platform is expected to improve efficiency and transparency.
Jaenal stressed the importance of cross-sector synergy to bolster national supply chains and the competitiveness of domestic products. If successful, Indonesia will not only be the largest sender of haj pilgrims but also potentially become a hub for the haj and umrah economy, providing broad benefits for national economic growth.
