Assalamualaikum - If You Don't Have Hobbies, Try Fixing Life Issues First
Assalamualaikum. I used to read just to pass time and tried picking up hobbies like drawing, crocheting, or braiding hair. I’ve experimented with a lot: volleyball, cooking, watching films, acting, songwriting. Problem was, most of those didn’t really light me up. Songwriting did for a while, then inspiration dried up because nothing much was happening in my life. Acting still appeals a bit, but after an acting class I realized I’m too shy and awkward for it right now. Lately I’ve shifted to hobbies that actually help solve my real-life problems. I’m short on money, so I spend time learning skills that fit my personality so I can earn and be stable at work. Many of my activities now revolve around making income because that’s the main issue. I look into why I couldn’t hold jobs before and learn how to do work I won’t want to quit quickly. I work on resumes, budgeting, and practical things so my free time can also lead to pay. Use your achievements for motivation. When I earned my medical coding certificate, I felt really proud. Even though I still haven’t found a job, I tell myself that’s fine - I’ll make a new resume, do a couple paid online tasks, then create a lesson plan on medical coding to sell like I’ve done before. I also don’t wear many of my clothes, so I plan to sell some. I can return cans for deposit money too. After I finish these productive hobbies, I let myself relax with something soothing like watching a film. It’s not paid, but I earned the break, alhamdulillah.
