KPK Monitors Yaqut's Health After Digestive Surgery
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continues to monitor the health condition of former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, a suspect in the alleged corruption case of hajj quotas. Gus Yaqut underwent surgery last week due to digestive issues.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the medical team is still overseeing Yaqut's recovery. The KPK trusts the professionalism of the medical team at Kramat Jati Hospital and emphasizes that Yaqut's presence is needed to complete the case file.
This case started from an additional hajj quota of 20,000 pilgrims, which the Religious Affairs Ministry split into 10,000 regular and 10,000 special, allegedly violating the ideal 8 percent portion rule. Investigators found indications of bribery and transactions involving special hajj quotas.
The KPK has named four suspects, including Yaqut and his former special staffer Ishfah Abidal Aziz, and seized nearly Rp100 billion from special hajj organizers. The case is being charged under corruption offense articles.
