What's the proper way to work out zakat on jewelry that includes gemstones?
Assalamualaikum everyone! So from what I understand, zakat should only be paid on gold and silver, not on precious stones (and I'm not sure about platinum either). Here in the US, jewelry usually has the carat amount marked, so you can weigh it and deduct the weight of the stones-since 1 carat equals 0.2 grams. But what about jewelry purchased in other places? Some have precious gems, others have colored non-precious stones, and it gets confusing not knowing how many grams to subtract. Any advice on handling this? JazakAllah khair!
