PBNU Rais Syuriah: Prophet's Birthday a Momentum to Strengthen Morals, Not Just a Ceremony
Rais Syuriah of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) Prof KH Zainal Abidin stressed that the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday should be a momentum to strengthen the morals of Muslims, not just an annual ceremonial tradition. He said this in Palu, Central Sulawesi, Tuesday (8/25/2026).
According to him, the main essence of the Prophet's sending is as a bearer of compassion and mercy for all the worlds. The Prophet's example in appreciating small kindness, prohibiting insults, and preaching with wisdom and gentleness must be translated into concrete behavior.
Zainal invited Muslims to make the Prophet's Birthday a space for self-criticism to measure to what extent prophetic values are present in daily life, especially in maintaining brotherhood and harmony in a pluralistic society. Preachers and scholars are urged to avoid an intimidating approach in conveying religious teachings.
By practicing the values of mutual respect, social care, and brotherhood, interfaith harmony in Indonesia, especially Central Sulawesi, can grow stronger. The main message of the Prophet's Birthday is to make the Prophet's morals a real measure in building a peaceful, tolerant, and mutually respectful social life.
