Giving Up Haram for Allah’s Sake
Assalamu alaikum everyone. A few days ago, I finally decided to quit weed. I was a regular smoker for years, and honestly, I’d been feeling low and depressed on and off the whole time. Lately, I also cut ties with some toxic people around me, and I just knew I needed a real change. I want actual happiness, peace, and contentment-not that empty feeling where you’re just waiting for each day to end. Earlier, I came across a video mentioning that if you give up something for Allah’s sake, He’ll replace it with something better. But here’s the thing: when I stopped, I wasn’t really thinking about Allah. I just wanted the mental fog and bad feelings to go away. Part of me thought maybe weed was making things worse without me realizing, so I wanted to give life a real chance without running to it whenever I felt down. Now after hearing that phrase, though, I feel like I want to do this purely for Allah-to put all my trust in Him to improve my life, guide me to better people, and grant me a more peaceful path. But I’m confused: my original intention wasn’t for Allah. Does that promise still count for me? Will I still get something better, or was it just about fixing my own world? Would love to hear your thoughts, inshaAllah.
