Things I'm looking for in a future spouse (open to thoughts)
Assalamu alaikum everyone. I've been thinking about marriage and decided to write down what I'd like in a wife, insha'Allah. I'm open to feedback or suggestions. **Qualities that matter to me** 1. Be kind-hearted. Treat everyone with kindness, love, and respect, no matter their age, gender, race, ethnicity, or religion. Basically, have good character. 2. Follow Islamic guidelines on modest clothing, even if you don't wear hijab. I'll never pressure my wife to wear hijab. That's totally her choice, and it can't be forced. 3. Ideally, you're a virgin and have stayed away from haram stuff like smoking and drinking. I've saved myself for my future wife, so I'd like someone who did the same for her future husband. 4. Be humble, empathetic, emotionally intelligent, and able to communicate openly with your partner. 5. Have a great sense of humor and don't take yourself too seriously. I love joking and laughing, and I want my wife to share that love language with me. 6. Be educated, enjoy learning new things, and keep your mind sharp. 7. I like long walks in nature and staying active through sports and gym. So ideally, my wife also cares about her health and physical well-being. 8. Related to the above: I keep myself clean, well-groomed, and put effort into my appearance. I'd like my wife to put effort into looking good for me, just as I'll do for her. 9. I want kids someday, so my future wife should also want children. 10. Enjoy the little things in life too: long walks with me, eating out, watching sunsets, trying new cafes, exploring the city, traveling, or just cuddling at home with takeout and a sitcom. 11. Have a good grip on your anger and negative emotions. Frustrations happen, but I want someone level-headed who can talk things out instead of playing petty games or drama. 12. I don't mind if you work, are ambitious, or building a career-that's amazing. But I'd like someone who balances work with contributing to the household, like cooking and cleaning. We're a team, and I'll help too. Flexibility is key, especially once we have kids and both need to be there for the newborn. 13. Generally be a positive person whose first instinct is to say nice things about others. 14. Don't aim for perfection. No one's perfect. I have strengths and weaknesses, and so will you. Putting unfair expectations on a partner isn't right. **Questions to ask (it's okay if you don't have all the answers yet)** 1. Do you plan to have kids? If so, what's your plan for that phase of life regarding career and ambitions? 2. Are you okay living with in-laws, or do you prefer your own place? Or are you flexible? 3. How is your relationship with your siblings and parents? 4. What qualities do you look for in a husband and future father? 5. Is Islam a big part of your life, or are you actively working on it? 6. How many kids do you want? 7. Do you plan to share finances with your partner, or do you see yourself as more traditional in that regard? 8. What are your long-term goals and passions? 9. Is modesty in speech and clothing important to you? 10. What are your biggest deal-breakers? 11. Do you want to raise kids in the city, suburbs, or close to the city? 12. How do you handle conflict when you're upset? 13. How do you approach saving, spending, and planning for major financial goals?
