Was my college reply respectful? Seeking Muslim perspectives.

Hey, I’m not Muslim or religious myself, but since I grew up mostly around Southern US Christianity, I’m trying to learn more about things I’m not familiar with. In my anthropology class, we were talking about Faith versus Evolution, and a classmate who I think is Muslim shared that he holds to his faith over evolution, and that we were created to worship the One Almighty. In my reply, I said something like: 'If God took the care to create this world with all its beauty and wonder, maybe He also wants us to explore it and understand how it works.' Leaving aside the actual topic, I’m concerned I might have come across as disrespectful without meaning to. I didn’t want to assume he’s Christian and say 'God' if he’s Muslim, or say 'Allah' if he’s actually Christian-just trying to be mindful and learn. I’d really appreciate your thoughts. JazakAllah khair.

Yeah that’s respectful. You showed you listened and were trying to engage positively. That’s what matters.

As a Muslim, I'm not offended at all. You used 'God' respectfully and acknowledged his point. It's all about intention.

Nah, you did good. Saying God is fine here, I think. It’s clear you were being respectful.

Your reply was actually really thoughtful. You didn't dismiss his faith and tried to find common ground. That’s respectful in my book.

Lol, I think you're overthinking it. You were polite and didn't force anything. It's fine.

It sounds like a very kind and considerate response. Using 'God' is perfectly okay and shows you were trying to be inclusive without assuming.
