Thinking about attending a mosque prayer - am I welcome?

Assalamu alaikum, I’ve just moved into an area where a new mosque is nearby, and I’ve noticed they have regular prayer timings. I’ve been feeling quite nervous but would really love to experience one of the prayers. I'm wondering if it's okay since I’m not Muslim yet - if it is, which prayer time would be best for a newcomer? Also, I’m a woman and I know I should dress modestly and cover my hair. I recall reading that women and men usually pray in separate spaces. Would it be okay to kindly ask one of the sisters there to show me where I can sit and maybe guide me a bit? I don’t want to do anything that might be seen as disrespectful.

Yes, please come! Sisters are usually happy to help. Dress modestly, bring a scarf, and just observe. Don't worry about getting everything right on your first visit.

You are absolutely welcome! I'd suggest the Dhuhr or Asr prayer for a first visit as they tend to be a bit less crowded. Just approach any sister with a smile, we love helping newcomers.

Your respectful approach is everything. It's completely okay to ask a sister for guidance - we often have visitors. Maghrib prayer is beautiful and a good time to visit.

Go for it! I remember being nervous too. Someone will definitely help you find the women's section. Don't stress.

Wa alaikum assalam! So lovely to hear this. Definitely go and ask someone - we've all been new at some point. Jummah prayer might be overwhelming; maybe try a regular daily salah first.
