UAE Supports Natural Disaster Preparedness in Asia-Pacific with $10 Million
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. The UAE has generously pledged $10 million to enhance resilience against natural disasters across the Asia-Pacific region. This support, made possible by the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed through the UAE International Aid Agency, will fund Emirates Nature-WWF's new program focused on strengthening community preparedness.
The initial stage of this important work will take place in the Philippines, Indonesia, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands. The main goals are to improve living conditions by restoring natural defenses like mangroves and coral reefs, provide sustainable income opportunities for farmers, fishermen, and small business owners, and develop early warning systems to better manage disaster risks.
This initiative was announced during the World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes. The timing is crucial, especially as the Philippines continues to recover from recent earthquakes, including a 6.9 magnitude quake in Cebu that caused tragic loss and displacement. The region faces frequent natural challenges like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoons due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
May Allah (SWT) bless these efforts and protect all communities from harm. Ameen.
