Iran Fires at Qatari Tanker in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired missiles at several commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night (6/7/2026). A Qatari oil tanker, reportedly passing through a restricted route and ignoring warnings, was targeted.
Iranian state TV reports said the vessel was trying to pass through the Omani route with a US Navy escort. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed a tanker was attacked off the coast of Oman, causing a fire. The incident took place 8 nautical miles east of Limah.
According to UKMTO, the ship was hit by an unknown projectile on its port side while sailing south. News outlet Axios reported the US military might retaliate by striking targets inside Iran.
