The Story of Asma Wafa Andina, Unhan Med School Cadet Candidate Quits After Being Asked to Remove Her Hijab
BANDA ACEH – Asma Wafa Andina, a prospective new student for the Military Medicine Study Program at the Faculty of Military Medicine, Indonesia's Defense University (Unhan) class of 2026, decided to step down after facing the choice between taking off her hijab or withdrawing from the selection. She shared this story through her Instagram account @pawnotes on Wednesday, August 18, 2026.
Wafa told that she originally didn't plan to apply to Unhan, but got interested after finding out about the Military Medicine program. She successfully passed various selection stages, from administration, basic skills tests, psychology tests, up to the regional and central levels, until she was finally declared accepted.
She had been part of the Unhan Cohort 7 Student Cadets for about 15 hours. But the next morning she decided to leave the process and sign a resignation letter, instead of signing the contract agreement, because of the request to remove her hijab.
