Struggling to make friends after marriage?
Does anyone else feel this? Ever since I got married two years ago, making new friends has been really tough. My childhood friends started distancing themselves after my engagement. I’ve tried talking to them about it, but they keep saying everything’s the same. I’ve thought a lot about what might have changed-sure, my responsibilities and priorities shifted, but I still make time for friendships, and Alhamdulillah, my husband is understanding and encourages me to have companions. Yet, my family and coworkers noticed I’ve become more devoted and easier to get along with after marriage. Some older sisters told me they went through this too, losing friends after marriage. They mention jealousy, but I don’t get it-I married young, in my early 20s, and we live in North America, so it’s not like my friends are worried about time running out. To make it harder, we moved to a new city, and my husband’s friends are all single, so I can’t connect with other women through them. Most sisters at the local masjid are older and in a different life stage, so it’s hard to relate. There’s a Muslim student group at a nearby university with people my age, but since I’m not a student, I guess I can’t join their events. So maybe this is a silly question, but any tips on making friends as a sister in her 20s? I try to attend halaqas when I can, and I’m excited to start volunteering at the masjid, but is there something obvious I’m missing?
