Russia Holds KazanForum 2026 to Strengthen Economic Cooperation with the Islamic World
The International Economic Forum 'Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum 2026' is scheduled to take place from May 12–17, 2026, in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. This forum focuses on developing various sectors of the Sharia economy, including Islamic banking, the halal industry, and Muslim fashion, and aims to strengthen economic synergy between Russia and member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Russia's Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, emphasized the importance of this forum as a global agenda. Indonesia, as the country with the world's largest Muslim population and a key player in the halal industry, receives special attention in its participation. In the previous edition, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon attended as part of the delegation.
Tolchenov also highlighted that the forum serves as an opportunity to present demographic facts about the Muslim population in Russia, estimated at 15 to 18 million people, with Kazan being one of its cultural centers. KazanForum was first held in 2009 and aims to expand cooperation in trade, economic, scientific, technical, social, and cultural fields, as well as promote Islamic financial institutions in Russia.
