My Mother Insists I Wear a Religious Charm Against My Will. Any Advice?
Assalamu alaykum, everyone. So my mom is insisting that I wear this protective amulet around my waist-she got it from an imam or someone-and she’s been doing similar things since I was a kid. But now that I’ve learned this could involve shirk, I really don’t want to wear it anymore. The issue is that my mom, grandma, and aunt are always checking if I have it on, and if I don’t, they get upset and make me put it back on. I’ve tried explaining to my mom that it’s not right from an Islamic perspective, but she won’t listen and just gets angry whenever I bring it up. I feel so stuck-I’m uncomfortable wearing it, but she won’t hear me out. They think it’ll help me focus on my studies and pass exams, but I just don’t believe in that. My dad doesn’t believe in it either, but he stays quiet and doesn’t step in when this happens. What should I do? Any guidance would be really appreciated.
