KNPK Indonesia Highlights Childfree Threat, Family Resilience at Stake
The National Coalition for Family Protection (KNPK) Indonesia has warned that family resilience is at stake amidst demographic changes, including the childfree phenomenon, declining birth rates, and a growing elderly population. This came up during the KNPK Indonesia 2026 Expert Meeting themed “Family Resilience Amid Demographic Change: Challenges, Impacts, and Policy Strategies Toward a Sustainable Indonesia” in Jakarta, Saturday (27/6/2026).
KNPK Indonesia Chairperson Prof. Dr. Ir. Euis Sunarti, M.Si., stressed that the family must once again be placed as the main foundation of national development. Strengthening family values and structures based on an ecosystem approach is seen as crucial to facing demographic challenges. Global perspectives were shared by Dr. Sung Hee Hong from Seoul National University and Dr. Nik Norliati Fitri from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
On the national policy side, Dr. Indra Murty Surbakti, M.A. from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) outlined the government's strategy for strengthening family development. The forum produced policy recommendations for the government and stakeholders, along with the launch of the Indonesian Family Journal as a platform for family issue studies.
