The protests, which have been taking place almost nightly since late September, were sparked by concerns over the deaths of several pregnant women in a public hospital in Agadir, highlighting challenges within the healthcare system. Many young Moroccans are calling for significant social reforms and changes in leadership, including the resignation of the Prime Minister.
The King urged unity, stating that major national projects, such as preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Spain, should not come at the expense of social programs. Some protesters chose to pause their demonstrations on Friday night out of respect for the King's message.
