How can I support my friend after a loved one's passing?
As-salamu alaykum - I’m not Muslim, but many of my close friends are and I care about them a lot. One of my friends just lost a family member, and I’ve offered my condolences and love. I still feel like there’s more I could say or do to comfort her during this hard time. So far I’ve been saying things like, “May Allah keep their soul close in Jannah until you are reunited,” but I worry about saying the wrong thing or unintentionally offending by offering Du’a in a language I don’t speak well. What are some simple, sincere words or actions that would be appropriate and comforting for me to offer a Muslim friend who is grieving? Would it be better to keep to short phrases in English, offer to help with practical tasks, send food, or something else? I just want to be respectful and genuinely supportive. JazakAllahu khairan for any guidance.
