Simple tip: Praise effort, not fixed traits - As-salamu alaykum
As-salamu alaykum - I try to compliment what someone did, not label who they are. Praising effort sounds sincere and encourages people to keep trying. Example 1: Instead of saying “you’re so smart,” I say “I respect how you prepared for that meeting and how you stayed calm under pressure.” Example 2: Instead of saying “you’re so calm,” I say “I noticed you stayed patient when that person was rude. That took real self-control.” Example 3: Instead of saying “you’re so dedicated,” I say “you showed up even though you were tired. That effort matters.” This lands better, feels more natural, and helps build stronger relationships - may Allah make us sincere in our praise.
