Figure X Allegedly Linked to Hijab Removal Rule at UNHAN, Directive During Defense Minister Tenure
A student cadet at Indonesia’s Defense University (UNHAN), A Wafa Ahdina, shared her experience about a rule requiring female students to take off their hijab. In a social media post, Wafa mentioned an official-whose identity was obscured as “xxx”-as the one who issued the directive when they were serving as defense minister.
Wafa recounted asking a staff member about the basis of the hijab removal rule during contract signing on June 24, 2025. The staff member said it was a directive from “xxx” and that there’s no written regulation. Wafa also pointed out that cadets from Palestine are allowed to wear hijab as an exception.
After passing the selection, Wafa decided to resign because she wasn’t willing to remove her hijab. She stressed that the hijab is an honor for Muslim women and hopes the hijab rules at UNHAN will be clarified in writing, including being stated from the start of registration.
Wafa’s post has since gone viral with over 7,900 likes and garnered support from netizens. UNHAN hasn’t given an official clarification about the story yet.
