Defending my mother and grandmother-did I cross a line?

Assalamualaikum everyone, My dad has been calling my mom and my grandma really disgusting names-like, words I won't even repeat-and it's been going on for months now. It all started because of some small mistake my mom made, and he just won't let it go. My grandma (my mom's mom) had nothing to do with it, but he drags her into it too, insulting her and being so disrespectful. It's gotten to the point where he threatens my mom, curses at her, and even tries to get physical. For the longest time, I just stayed quiet, but it's been eating me up inside, and my mental health is really suffering. I couldn't take it anymore, so I ended up screaming at him, trying to defend my mom and grandma's honor. I actually called him the same terrible things he's been saying about them, just to make him stop. But now I feel awful-did I commit a sin by fighting with my dad and using those words, even if it was to protect my family? Seeing someone disrespect my grandma for no reason is just too painful to bear.
