Can we proudly claim our mother’s heritage in Islam?
Salam everyone! I’m really confused and hoping someone can clear this up. I come from parents of two different countries, and I feel connected to both sides. But when I tell people I’m half from my mother’s country, some get upset and say that in Islam we must follow the father’s lineage only, and that I’m just what my dad is. I get that I’m from my father’s lineage, but scientifically I’m also from my mother’s. So is it allowed in Islam to identify with her background too? Any solid points or evidence from our deen that support embracing my maternal heritage would really help. JazakAllah khair!
