Thoughts on the Headscarf Discussion

Assalamu alaikum, I hope everyone is in good health. For a while now, I've been considering wearing the hijab, and as I researched more, other questions came up, but let’s put that aside. I started wondering whether it’s truly an obligation because of the debate about covering the chest, and the main reason I’m writing this is to learn about the topic and clear up any misunderstandings. Even though I want to wear it whether it’s mandatory or not, I struggle with the idea that Allah might punish me with hellfire for not wearing it, especially if I fulfill all five pillars-but somehow that sin overshadows everything. Some brothers say that on Judgment Day, you'll be asked about your prayers first and then about the hijab, which I find really hard to accept. Still, I’ll wear it since it feels like it’s better to be cautious, but I’m still dealing with the negative perceptions around it. I already dress modestly, with loose and long-sleeved clothes, so it would just be adding the head covering.
