Assalamu alaikum - an online directory of Tatar baby names will be created in Tatarstan
Assalamu alaikum, brothers and sisters. The authorities of Tatarstan have started work on a large project aimed at preserving and popularizing traditional Tatar names. At a meeting in the Civil Registry Office they discussed creating a convenient online service that will help future parents choose a name for their child.
As Ilgiz Khalikov, director of the Institute of Language, Literature and Arts named after Galimzhan Ibragimov, said, specialists are now compiling a complete and up‑to‑date list of traditional Tatar names - it will become the basis for the new digital resource.
There’s already a useful database - the “Tatar‑Russian Dictionary of Given Names, Patronymics and Surnames,” posted on the Civil Registry’s website. This work, prepared by researchers at the institute and approved by the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan, was an important step in systematizing the national anthroponymy.
The authorities plan to integrate the name‑selection service into the public services portal. That will make choosing a name simpler and more meaningful: parents will be able to consider not just how a name sounds, but its original meaning and its correct spelling in Tatar.
The project is aimed at strengthening cultural traditions and ensuring that the new generation of Tatars receives beautiful names that are historically and linguistically well‑grounded. May Allah help our families choose names that carry good meaning and will bring joy to parents and children.
