An 85-year-old Nakba survivor’s story of loss and resilience
85-year-old Abdel Mahdi al-Wuheidi survived the 1948 Nakba, only to face another displacement during the recent war on Gaza. He recalls walking for days as a child, hoping to return in weeks-but it became a lifelong exile. Now, in a partially destroyed home in Jabalia, he says this war is worse than anything he’s seen: “A Nakba at the beginning of my life… and another Nakba at the end of it.” Despite everything, he refuses to leave, holding onto his land and homeland.
