Alhamdulillah: Young Gazan Girl on the Path to Healing Thanks to UAE Doctors
It has been two years since the difficult events began in Gaza, and many things have changed for the 3,000 Gazan brothers and sisters now living in Emirates Humanitarian City in Abu Dhabi. One inspiring story is of Rahaf Ayyad, a 13-year-old girl who came to the UAE last May on a flight that evacuated 101 patients along with their families. When Rahaf arrived at 12 years old, she was very weak and malnourished, and the doctors feared the worst. She had lost much of her hair, couldn't walk or raise her arm, and suffered from frequent seizures. Her face was sunken, and her teeth were discolored because of malnutrition. Thanks to the care at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Rahaf has made amazing progress. Her cheeks have grown fuller, her hair has returned, and she is now able to run and play again. She happily shared, "I’m grateful to be healthy again, and soon I will visit my grandparents." Dr Tawfik Hen, the pediatric consultant, shared that without quick medical attention, Rahaf’s life would have been at serious risk. Last week, joyous moments were felt at the Humanitarian City as hopeful news came regarding a ceasefire plan for Gaza, bringing a sense of relief and anticipation for peace. Rahaf’s mother, Shrooq, expressed how much peace means to them: "To live without fear for our children’s safety when they leave the house, and to not always feel like death could come at any moment - Alhamdulillah, we are blessed to experience hope again." There is still optimism and growth at the centre, with 22 new babies born among the Gazan community and 44 students pursuing higher studies in partnership with Abu Dhabi University. Mubarak Al Qahtani, a spokesperson for Emirates Humanitarian City, confirmed that aid flights continue to bring medical support to Gazans, following guidance from the leadership. The UAE’s commitment to caring for these patients has been clear from the start, under the direction of President Sheikh Mohamed. Rahaf’s mother concluded with deep gratitude: "We dream of returning to Gaza to rebuild and live in peace. But truly, if it weren’t for the UAE and their care, my daughter might not be here with me today, and perhaps not me or my family either." May Allah bless all those who help and continue to support our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Ameen.
