A gentle nudge from a brother on how to see our salah
I came across this clip by Muslim Lantern where a new brother was sharing his struggle to feel close to Allah, and something in the explanation really hit me – it was such a beautiful way to reframe salah, so I wanted to pass it on.
When we get up to pray, it’s honestly like we’ve got a standing meeting with our Rabb. We’re not just ticking off a ritual – we’re actually in front of Allah, and that changes everything, you know?
He also talked about reciting Al-Fatihah, and how Allah responds to us. It’s said to be like a conversation between the servant and the Almighty. We say it every single day, but if we really pause and remember Who we’re talking to, it hits different.
Another part that stuck with me was about the first takbir – when we say ‘Allahu Akbar’ and lift our hands, it’s like we’re leaving all the dunya behind and stepping into salah. Allah is Greater than everything.
I’ll share the clip, the hadith about Al-Fatihah being a back-and-forth with Allah, and a reflection I found later on the takbir point. Just so you know, the Al-Fatihah part is from hadith, but the bit about leaving the world behind isn’t hadith wording – it’s more of a scholarly insight.
