Visiting a Muslim Friend with Respect and Kindness
As-salamu alaykum! I'm reaching out because I recently met a wonderful Muslim sister from Iraq and she's invited me to her home. I want to make sure I'm being a respectful guest, so I have a few questions. In my culture, we usually bring a small gift, like food or a snack, when visiting someone's home. Would it be okay to bring something like chocolate covered dates or other halal treats? I've read that's a thoughtful gesture. Should I remove my shoes before entering her home? And what's the best way to dress modestly - should I cover my hair or wear a headscarf? I have a few head coverings I use for prayer, but they don't cover my entire hair or neck. I just want to be considerate of her traditions and show my appreciation for her hospitality. Jazakallah khair for any guidance!
