Update on Death Toll After 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake in NTT Rises to 40
The number of fatalities after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) up to 6:30 PM local time (WITA) is recorded at 40 people. Head of Maumere SAR Office Fathur Rahman said that besides the fatalities, 50 people were injured, so the total casualties reached 90 people.
All personnel and equipment have been deployed to speed up search and rescue. The Maumere SAR Office has dispatched 281 combined personnel from the military, police, disaster management agency, Red Cross, and other SAR potentials, and also activated the KN SAR Puntadewa vessel.
SAR operations are still ongoing with priority on searching for buried victims and evacuating affected residents. Head of BNPB Lt. Gen. Suharyanto mentioned that there are still victims buried under building debris, fewer than 10 people, and stressed that search and rescue remains the government's priority.
