Understanding Islam and Muslims

Assalamu alaikum everyone, I'm a bit puzzled here. I'm just looking around for a school project, but I keep mixing up Islam and Muslim. Are they the same thing? I'm really curious and would love to learn more about your lives and faith. Jazakallah khair for any help!
