Saudi Straightens Out Pilgrimage Practices at Jabal Rahmah, Educates Pilgrims on Islamic Guidance
The Saudi government is beefing up religious education programs around the historic Jabal Rahmah site in Arafah to keep the place sacred and set straight pilgrimage practices that don’t align with Islamic law. This move comes in response to some pilgrims still doing superstitious stuff and even vandalizing the area.
During this 1448 Hijri umrah season, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance is running on-site counseling booths at Jabal Rahmah and Namirah Mosque. Preachers and multilingual translators are there to guide people on how to properly visit, the rulings on worship, and the do’s and don’ts according to Islam.
The training’s meant to correct misunderstandings about historical sites, and it includes handing out multilingual books and brochures. The whole thing fits in with the Saudi Vision 2030 push to raise the bar for hajj and umrah services, while also promoting moderation and a deeper spiritual trip for pilgrims.
