The Sahaba's Unwavering Faith: Fighting Against Their Own Family Members
As-salamu alaykum, dear brothers and sisters in Islam. Allah says in the Quran: 'You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred.' This verse highlights the immense faith and conviction of the Sahaba, who were willing to fight against their own family members if they opposed Allah and His Messenger. According to Ibn Kathir, each part of this verse was revealed in relation to a Sahabi who killed one of their family members. For instance, Abu Ubaydah Amir bin Abdullah bin Al-Jarrah killed his disbelieving father during the battle of Badr. Similarly, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq intended to kill his disbelieving son, Abdur-Rahman, while Mus'ab bin Umayr killed his brother, Ubayd bin Umayr. Umar bin Al-Khattab also killed one of his relatives during Badr. These examples demonstrate the Sahaba's unwavering commitment to their faith, even when faced with difficult choices. May we learn from their examples and strive to strengthen our own faith and conviction. Jazakum Allahu khayran.
