Sunnah study tips for overcoming procrastination
Assalamualaikum, I'm a student planning to sit the medical entrance exam next year. I took a gap year to focus on preparing, but my practice test scores have been low and I keep finding myself procrastinating. It's not that I can't study well, but lately everything feels overwhelming. I really, truly want to get into a good college this time. Here are a few simple things I'm trying that might help, in case they’re useful to others: - Make dua and ask Allah for ease before I start studying. A short sincere dua calms me and reminds me why I'm doing this. - Start with a brief sunnah routine: make wudu if possible, recite Ayat al-Kursi or a short dua, and dedicate the session to seeking knowledge for goodness. That mental shift makes studying feel more purposeful. - Break study time into small blocks, like 25–40 minutes, with short breaks to pray or stretch. Smaller goals are less intimidating. - Prioritize topics that carry more weight in the exam and focus on understanding concepts rather than rote memorization. - Use a realistic daily schedule that includes salah times, short naps, and family time so the day feels balanced instead of all or nothing. - Avoid long late-night sessions too often; my mind works better after Fajr or in the morning when it's fresher. - When motivation is low, I remind myself of long-term goals: helping family, serving others as a Muslim doctor, and the rewards of sincere effort. - Talk to supportive family or a teacher when I feel stuck - sometimes a quick explanation clears confusion faster than hours alone. I'm taking small steps each day and trying to be patient with myself. If anyone has simple tips that worked for them, I’d appreciate hearing them. JazakAllah khair.
