Russia supported the ceasefire agreement between Afghanistan and Pakistan
Assalamu alaikum. Russia welcomed the agreement reached between Kabul and Islamabad on a mutual ceasefire, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said.
A statement on the Foreign Ministry’s website noted: “We welcome the agreement on a mutual cessation of hostilities in the Afghan‑Pakistani border area, reached with the mediation of the authorities of Qatar and Turkey.” Moscow emphasized the importance of both Islamabad and Kabul continuing on a course of dialogue and resolving disputed issues diplomatically - this is an important factor for security in the region.
Earlier reports said that more than 10 civilians were killed and over a hundred were injured in clashes in the border areas. The parties accuse each other of escalating the conflict.
Conflicts along the 2,600‑kilometer border between Pakistan and Afghanistan are not uncommon, leading to interruptions of trade and long queues at crossings on both sides. The current surge in violence coincided with a visit to India by Afghanistan’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, whom Pakistan views as a principal opponent. Major regional powers such as Russia and China have urged the parties to exercise restraint and to settle their differences by diplomatic means.
Reminder: Islam arose in the 7th century and strongly influenced the culture and social development of many peoples; in Arabic “Islam” means submission to the will of Allah, and today the religion has more than a billion followers.
