Porprov XII NTB Officially Opens, Governor Pushes Athlete Performance and PON 2028 Readiness
West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, officially opened the 12th NTB Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) 2026 at Bumi Gora Field, Mataram, Thursday (7/16). This event is a key moment to strengthen athlete development and test NTB's readiness as co-host of the 22nd National Sports Week (PON) in 2028 with East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Porprov XII features 51 sports with 4,860 athletes, 1,088 officials, and 519 referees, running until July 26 across six regions. NTB KONI chairman Mori Hanafi explained the event is designed as a simulation for PON 2028, using digital systems and national standards. The projected economic turnover during Porprov exceeds IDR 100 billion, supported by higher hotel occupancy, transportation, food, and MSMEs.
The governor stressed that Porprov isn't just a competition but part of developing athletes for higher achievements. He urged athletes to uphold sportsmanship and brotherhood. Two big goals: improving the quality of coaching to surpass previous PON results and testing NTB's readiness as a professional, accountable, and nationally standardized host.
