Peaceful Support for Palestine Continues Across Europe Despite Gaza Ceasefire
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah! Even though there is a new ceasefire brokered by the US to pause Israel’s ongoing conflict with Gaza, many brothers and sisters in Europe are determined to keep peacefully protesting in support of Palestine. They see this ceasefire as just a first step and remain deeply committed to standing with Palestinians.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas hasn’t changed the hearts of those who have been demonstrating for the past two years. Activists want governments to do more - like applying sanctions and arms embargoes against Israel - to hold them accountable for their actions.
InshaAllah, a large peaceful rally is planned in London this Saturday to show opposition to the occupation of Gaza and the plans to annex parts of the West Bank. Leaders of the movement remind us that this temporary ceasefire doesn’t end decades of hardship and injustice faced by the Palestinian people. The goal is a just, permanent peace based on rights and fairness.
Many continue to stress that staying active in the streets is crucial to raising awareness and pushing for real change. They want to see an end to oppression and justice for all those affected, including the victims of the Nakba in 1948.
This will be the 33rd national march in the UK since the war reignited in October 2023, with hundreds of thousands joining in solidarity. Frustration with governments remains high, as many feel their leaders have not done enough to stop the suffering.
Doctors worldwide have also voiced their support by petitioning medical associations to cut ties with their Israeli counterparts, gathering thousands of signatures from more than 60 countries.
In Europe, support for Palestine has grown significantly, with many once hesitant now openly standing against injustice. Public pressure has helped encourage international calls for a ceasefire and greater accountability.
Countries like Spain and Ireland have been especially vocal, pushing the EU to suspend relations with Israel and recognizing the severity of the conflict. Officials from Ireland and South Africa continue working together to maintain global pressure to end the ongoing crisis.
While the ceasefire is a hopeful sign, many activists remain cautious and ready to continue peaceful efforts until lasting justice and peace are achieved. May Allah grant ease and relief to all affected and guide us towards peace and fairness. Ameen.
