Pakistan cuts petrol and diesel prices by up to Rs5 per litre
Assalamu Alaikum - Alhamdulillah, some relief for motorists and families.
The finance division said late Wednesday that for the next fortnight Pakistan has reduced petroleum prices. Petrol was lowered by Rs5.66 per litre to Rs263.02, and high-speed diesel went down by Rs1.39 to Rs275.41. Superior kerosene oil dropped by Rs3.26 to Rs181.71 per litre, and light diesel oil fell by Rs2.74 to Rs162.76.
The change takes effect for the fortnight starting Oct. 16, 2025, following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and the related ministries. Fuel rates are reviewed every two weeks and move with global oil markets, exchange-rate shifts and domestic tax changes - the idea is to pass import cost changes to consumers and help keep the fuel supply chain running.
Petrol mainly serves private cars, small vehicles, rickshaws and bikes, while diesel powers heavy vehicles that carry goods across the country. Any price shifts affect inflation, production and transport costs, and therefore food and everyday prices - especially since Pakistan depends a lot on imported fuel.
For context, on Oct. 1 the government had raised petrol by Rs4.07 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs4.04 per litre for that fortnight. This cut should give some short-term relief to households and transporters, insha'Allah.
