Observer Says Jokowi's Political Safari Backs Gibran's Steps
Political observer Rocky Gerung sees President Joko Widodo's recent political safari across various regions as a political maneuver to support his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka. He said the visits to Lampung and East Nusa Tenggara are about rallying mass support for Gibran's political interests. "Jokowi's move of going around everywhere... it's actually 100 percent for Gibran. Not 100 percent, it's 102 percent," Rocky said on the Total Politik YouTube channel on August 5, 2026.
According to Rocky, behind the safari lies Jokowi's worry about his position after leaving power, given several past issues that could resurface, such as his diploma and the KPU's decisions. He believes that Gibran's position as vice president doesn't yet guarantee political safety, so ensuring Gibran's career path to the presidency becomes a strategic interest.
"The only thing that can make him safe is if Gibran becomes president," Rocky stressed. He sees that Jokowi's camp will keep building consolidation and maintaining electoral influence to make sure the Jokowi family's position stays relevant in national politics.
