Ministry of Hajj Strengthens Makassar Hajj Dormitory as Model for Eastern Indonesia Hajj Services
The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the quality of services for pilgrims by making the Makassar Hajj Dormitory a top-notch service center for the Eastern Indonesia region. This was conveyed by the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Moch. Irfan Yusuf, during the Evaluation of Ujung Pandang Embarkation and Debarkation Services and Coaching for Kemenhaj Civil Servants in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Sunday (14/6/2026).
The minister stressed that the Makassar Hajj Dormitory must become a professional and integrated service model, ensuring pilgrims' comfort from the moment they enter the dorm, departure to the airport, flight to the Holy Land, until returning to their hometowns safely and with dignity. Service success is measured by the direct experience of the pilgrims, covering document checks, health, meals, baggage, transportation, and services for the elderly and disabled.
Kemenhaj is also pushing for reforms in hajj personnel, including integrated training for Embarkation Hajj Organizing Officers (PPIH) and selection based on competence, integrity, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations. Regional Hajj Officers (PHD) are being strengthened as primary companions for pilgrims, especially the elderly and vulnerable groups, while the Kloter PPIH works within a single command service system.
In the health sector, the principle of health fitness (istithaah) is being reinforced as a protection for pilgrims, ensuring readiness before entering the dorm, particularly for the elderly, disabled, and high-risk pilgrims. Kemenhaj is also committed to closing loopholes for misconduct such as unauthorized hajj proxies, unofficial levies, and data manipulation, in order to deliver professional, accountable, and pilgrim-satisfaction-oriented hajj services.
