Minister's Prayer at 2026 MPR Annual Session: Unity, Criticism, and Protection of the Weak
Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar led the prayer at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, Friday (14/8/2026). The prayer highlighted three strategic issues: national unity, the courage to self-correct in response to criticism, and protection for the oppressed and the weak.
Nasaruddin invited all elements of the nation to unite their hearts and minds to love Indonesia and strengthen synergy in facing global challenges. He emphasized the importance of not falling into slander and betrayal, but also not closing oneself off from criticism. 'Make us aware to correct ourselves if their slander and criticism are true. Forgive them if their slander and criticism are wrong,' he said.
The prayer also affirmed concern for the weak regardless of background. 'O Allah, help any of Your servants who are oppressed and weak on this earth, both those who are devout and those who are not yet devout,' he said.
The Minister closed the prayer with the hope that Indonesia becomes a good nation and receives God's forgiveness, and emphasized the balance between effort and trust in God in facing the nation's various challenges.
