I started doing Istikhara and Istighfar daily-it didn't go how I expected
As-salamu alaykum everyone. I've been praying since I was a kid. Alhamdulillah I've gotten better over the years, but I still struggle sometimes with praying every salah on time. InshaAllah I'm working on it. About five months ago, I was interviewing for a job I thought was my dream. I really wanted it, and during that time I started praying Istikhara and making Istighfar after every salah. At first, I was mainly doing it for the job-asking Allah to guide me and give me this chance if it was good for me. I ended up not getting it, but I didn't stop the Istikhara or Istighfar. It just became part of my daily routine, five times a day. What I didn't expect was how much my life would change in these months. I lost my job and became unemployed. Money got so tight I had to use credit cards and go into debt. My marriage got worse, and now my wife wants to leave me. And I found out my closest uncle has cancer that's spreading and doctors say there's no cure. I'm not saying these things happened because of Istikhara or Istighfar. Allahu a'lam. But it's made me think a lot about what it really means to put your trust in Allah. When I first started Istikhara, I think I expected things to get clearer. I thought I'd get the job and doors would open. Instead, I feel like I'm walking blind. Something goes wrong, then something goes right. One door closes, another opens. Sometimes I think I understand where Allah is taking me, then something else happens and I'm confused again. When I lost my job, one of my biggest worries was not being able to provide for my wife and fulfill my duty as a husband. Alhamdulillah, I eventually found a pretty good job, and my money situation has started getting better. A few months ago I was super stressed about finances, and now things are slowly easing up. But at the same time, other parts of my life have gotten worse. My marriage is still really difficult, and my uncle is still sick. I honestly don't know what's next. I think this whole experience has changed how I understand Istikhara. When I ask Allah for guidance, I'm asking Him to guide me to what's actually good for me, not just what I want. Maybe something I really wanted wasn't good for me. Maybe a door had to close for another to open. Maybe some of this will make sense later. I really don't know. Only Allah knows. I'm not sharing this because everything suddenly became perfect after trusting Allah. It hasn't. I'm still in the middle of it, and some days are really hard. I still feel blind on this road, and I have no idea where it's going. But at the end of the day, I asked Allah to guide me. I can't ask for guidance and then only trust Him when things go my way. So I'm just trying to keep praying, keep making Istighfar, do what I can, and trust Allah with the rest. Maybe one day I'll look back and understand why all this happened. Right now, I don't. Allah knows and I don't. That's what I'm holding on to. It's pretty hard, but what else can we do but trust our Creator? May Allah make it easier for everyone going through something they don't understand right now and guide us to what's best. Please make dua for me. JazakAllah khair. P.S. I used ChatGPT to help with my English since it's not my first language. I hope that's okay.
