Keeping the Gaza truce is essential to get aid to people - a reminder
Assalamu alaikum. The UN has stressed that keeping the ceasefire in Gaza going is crucial so humanitarian aid can reach those who need it most. Abeer Etefa from the UN World Food Programme told a briefing in Geneva that the truce, while fragile, is the only realistic way to save lives right now and must hold. Since the pause began, WFP said 530 trucks have entered Gaza carrying over 6,700 tonnes of food - roughly enough to feed nearly half a million people for two weeks.
Convoys are reaching warehouses, distributions are being organized with dignity, and WFP hasn’t reported looting of its trucks since the ceasefire started. They now have 26 food distribution points open across Gaza (up from five last Friday), though that’s still well below the 145 sites they aim to operate. Most of the distribution is in the south and center, and people are coming in large numbers to receive assistance.
However, only a couple of crossings are open, and the UN is urging that every entry point be allowed to receive aid - especially those in the north, where the need is desperate. There’s no clear timeline for when those northern crossings will open, and WFP warns Gaza is far from being sufficiently supplied.
Leaders in Europe have echoed the call for urgently reopening aid routes so food and basic necessities can reach civilians. Please keep the people of Gaza in your duas and support efforts to ensure safe, sustained access for humanitarian assistance.
